Cartooning Science - Rush DhillonRush Dhillon, scientist, artist, somewhere in between or both. Talented both as a scientist and an Illustrator, Rush realized he could use cartooning to break down and better communicate his scientific findings. When other scientists started asking him to illustrate their results, he found himself in the perfect trap between two worlds. Since then, cartooning has given him even more access to science and the work of other scientists, which in turn gives him more access to cartooning. It's the perfect cycle.
Extending the Life of Nature: Krista JohnsonKrista Johnson uses art to examine her constant need to seek out an abundance of nature. Even during an early winter walk through a community garden, where most plants were slumped and dying, it was clear that she was seeing more depth than I was capable of seeing. Everything she saw was "beautiful," and it wasn't until I watched her paint that I could see the beauty she was seeing. The image started as a string of dark whimsical sweeps and swoops and with each layer the beautiful scene just appeared before my eyes with rich colour and depth.
The Art of Intention - Tanis SaxbyMix incredible talent with a rich inner world and you get the beautiful creations from Vancouver sculptor Tanis Saxby. Tanis constantly fosters her curiosity allowing her to delve deeper and deeper into her craft and where it comes from. That said, one doesn't have to travel so deep to enjoy the beauty of her work. As a matter of fact, Tanis doesn't need that from them. Her hope is just to enhance a room and, even if subconsciously, enhance a viewer's life.
A Story of Fire and Glass - Maria Ida DesignsThe first thing you notice when in the presence of Maria Struk at work is her sense of calm. She's working with a material that is constantly shifting - molten glass under the weight of gravity. It seems like it could get away from her at any moment, but it doesn't. Instead she calmly works with it's motion, spinning it to allow gravity to keep working it's way into a piece that becomes a beautiful sum of elements and forces.
